If I could offer one crucial piece of advice to my 20-year-old self, it would be this: Don’t listen to people who do not inspire you and lead the lifestyle you want.
Consider this: most of the advice you receive comes from the people you surround yourself with. So, who are you surrounding yourself with? Are these individuals who inspire you and contribute to your growth? Are they people with a positive attitude towards life and success, and who possess integrity?
The reality is, you will need advice and role models to look up to. Typically, we seek advice from our inner circle first. So, who is in your inner circle? Who do you allow access to your thoughts, dreams, and emotions? How are these individuals treating you? Are they cheering for you and providing sound advice?
Because here’s the thing: if people are good at one thing, it’s giving advice, sometimes even when it’s not wanted. Everyone thinks they know best how others should live their lives. It’s human nature.
As an over-thinker who used to rely heavily on others’ opinions, here’s what I’ve learned : Most advice, especially from those who operate differently from you, is a waste of time. Yes, correct – it is a waste of time.
You need to filter out the opinions and advice of those who do not lead the lifestyle you aspire to live or who lack integrity.
Be selective about your environment and the people you allow into your inner circle. Filter out the nonsense and focus on those who genuinely inspire you and align with your goals.
I promise you, it gets so much better after that.
